Notre Maison

Greetings everyone,

It is with great joy and grateful heart I share this news with you. As some of you may recall, after the opening of Notre Maison (the orphanage in Haiti) in 2015, we wanted to find a school for the kids. But, considering that they had never been in school, especially the older ones, no school in the area wanted to accept them. They said that these kids would be a burden, etc.

Therefore, we decided to hire a teacher to teach them on site. As the number of children increased, more teachers were hired to help out. We used that opportunity to welcome a few children from the community whose parents would not have been able to send to school otherwise.

This opened the door to our little school: Institution Mixte René Descartes (René Descartes Co-ed Institution) (formerly Lakeview Academy, as we are located near the lake).

Since then, we’ve been adding one class a year to keep up with our kids’ grades. The 2025-2026 school year was the first year that our kids reached grade 9 and so had to take a national Exam: the 4-day Grade-9 exams. At the end of Grade 9, students are sent to different locations for their 4-day national exam. Many students usually fail those exams and they are not allowed to move on to Grade 10 until they pass.

We had 5 students in Grade 9: Christelle and Miphaella (2 of our children at Notre Maison) and 3 other students from the community. And I am very happy to report that by God’s grace, your support, the great work and dedication of our students and teachers, all our 5 students have passed the exam, and are now ready for grade 10 opening soon, Lord willing.

As we always say, only God knows how big a difference you are helping make in the lives of so many. Thanks again for your continued support, and God bless!

Jean Volcy.
