Myrtle was a member of the Bayview avenue church of Christ since 1950. My brother Ricky and I (Lori) both grew up at Bayview and I left at the age of 25 when we moved to Pickering. We still have many close friends in the Bayview congregation.
Myrtle Marie Dale was born on May 5,1923 near Guelph, Ontario in a farm-room.
Both Bert and Myrtle left home at the age of 18 and were serving in the Second World War until returning home at the age of 25. They met by correspondence during the war – as Bert was a city-boy from Toronto and Myrtle was the country-girl from Guelph. Myrtle was a typist for the royal Canadian navy stationed in Ottawa, Ontario.

Bert was 25 and Myrtle 27 when they married on September 4,1948 at the country-church near Breslau. Theirs was the only wedding ever performed at that church without any taking place since. For 13 years they tried to have children, but it was February 8, 1961 before Ricky Dale was born at Toronto Western Hospital and then another 3 years before Lori Dale arrived on February 14,1964.
Bert and Myrtle were married for 65 years when Bert passed away on July 11, 2014, at the age of 93 due to a severe stroke. Myrtle went to be with her Lord on February 22, 2025, having almost reached her 102nd birthday.
She is predeceased by her older brother Floyd Schwandt who passed almost 10 years ago of natural causes in Chatham, Ontario. He and his wife Alice founded a Christian bookstore in Chatham. Myrtle’s younger sister Muriel Martin passed away in 2022 in Waterloo Ontario, due to a broken hip and dementia.
Myrtle is survived by her son Ricky Dale and his three children, Jason dale and spouse Lindsay Dale, Jonathan dale and spouse, Brodie and their two children, Wren and Piper and also, Ricks daughter, Lindsay Dale and her spouse, Shawn and their daughter, Liana. She is also survived by nieces and nephews on the Schwandt side of the family.
